Georgia is a country with great medical traditions, a well-developed healthcare system, health and medical resorts. We have all the resources for the development of medical tourism. Cultural, eco and German Heritage Tours of Kvemo Kartli Region (Georgia) and Ganja-Gazakh Region (Azerbaijan) were developed through the international project “Civil Society for Development and Cooperation: increasing tourism potential in the bordering regions of Azerbaijan and Georgia". Tours were published at Digital Touristic Guide TravelGIS. Project was co-financed by the European Union and managed by the GIZ within the Eastern Partnership Territorial Cooperation program. Lead partner of the project is Koda Community Education Center and the co-applicant organization is Ganja Regional Women Center. Expert of the project – the founder of Tourism Geoinformation Center, Professor Of University of Georgia, Sergo Tsiramua.

The project “Visitors Management Plan” (VMP) for selected Cultural Heritage Sites (CHS) # IDA/RDPII/CS/CQS/08-2014 is managed by “Tourism Geoinformation Center” and Italian company SiTI - Instituto Superiore sui Sistemi Territoriali per I’Innovazione. The project covers research of cultural and natural heritage of Imereti Region (Bagrati temple, Gelati monastery, Katskhi monastery, Ubisa monastery, old settlement of Vani, etc.), development of visitors plan, creation of touristic routes and publication on touristic web portal www.travelgis.ge. The project is financed by Municipal Development Fund of Georgia – MDF.

Tourism Geoinformation Center together and company Discover Georgia, with official support of Georgian National Tourism Administration started a project “Discover Georgia in Your Village”. Main approach of the project is to research less popular and unknown touristic resources in villages of Georgia, increase popularity and awareness. First phase of the project was started on 1^st March of 2016 and will be held during one year.

The main tasks:

• Collect information about touristic resources from coordinators and civilians of each village;
• Expedition visits to each region – discover touristic resources, collect geographical, photo, video and textual information;
• Publish collected information through touristic web portal www.travelgis.ge and mobile app TravelGIS;
• Consult and train self-employed population in touristic fields (legalization of business, service plus, sales and marketing, etc.);

Project results:

• Increased popularity and awareness of newly discovered touristic resources;
• Increased touristic potential of each region, more employed people and positive effect on economy of each region and Georgia.

With the initiative of “Tourism Geo-Information Center” several Georgian Universities adopted our application in studying process at tourism faculties. Students of “St. Andrew the first-called Georgian University of the Patriarchate of Georgia”, “David Agmashenbeli Univesity” and “Tbilisi Teaching University “Gorgasali” will create presentations and articles using materials found in TravelGIS and develop new tours. Best tours will be publish on our application, which is currently used in 70 countries.

"Tourism Geo-Informational Center - TravelGIS" implements the students' employment supporting project, which includes A) Students’ practice in modeling of tourist routes (field and desk) in "Tourism Geographic Information Center"; B) Presentations of routes created by students; C) Publishing winner tours on the tourist web portal www.travelgis.ge and mobile application TravelGIS, under the authurs (student) name. TravelGIS is used in more than 60 countries. The purpose of the project was to research touristic potential of archeological complex Samshvilde, creation of touristic route and publishing the tour to TravelGIS. We have researched archeological objects, natural sites, camping and panorama objects. With the Samshvilde Archeological Expedition (www.samshvilde.ge) We have stored photo, textual and geographical information, prepared the data base and published to TravelGIS. We have created trilingual (Georgia, English, Russian) online touristic guide. Georgian «Tourism Geo-Information Center» came out with the application of tourist destinations and routes for Android and iOS mobile devices. It is available for free on Play Store and App Store. Mobile application “TravelGIS” is the most contemporary, innovative information-communicative tool to advertise touristic resources and potential of any country in the world as well as its touristic companies and their tours. Mobile application (English, Russian, and Georgian) has been designed for a wide range of the world society. Any person interested is able to search and select any tour they are willing to go for according to the various criteria: country; tourist company; type, duration and complexity of the tour, etc. The selected route opens on an electronic map as a linear item. The color of the line shows the state of the way, spot-like sites/markers represent tourist resources such as monuments of natural and cultural heritage, museums, etc. as well as the sites of tourism infrastructure: hotels, food spots, camping and picnic areas, etc.  Clicking linear and spot sites opens a photo and textual information on the screen. Moreover, while travelling, a tourist can “see” on the screen his/her own location on the electronic map of the route by GPS technology. It simplifies an orientation; excludes going off track and ensures tour safety.

The studying program is approved and studied at Tourism Faculties in several Georgian universities like Georgian Technical University, Gorgasali University, Georgian University and Grigol Robakidze University.

One more project that we started in Kakheti (Signagi, Dedoplistskaro, Lagodekhi and Sagarejo regions), Central Kartli, Kvemo Kartli, Imereti, Racha-Letchkhumi, Samegrelo, Guria, Samtskhe-Javakheti and Upper-Achara is the research of wine tourism potential. From the point of the involvement into touristic routes, we have registered cellars in each region and district. We have revealed potential cellars according to the form query, the information input of which was used in the electronic bases of tourism information center.

The fundamental directions of the research were:

1. The quality of wine as the final product considering the whole process of its elaboration;
2. The existing infrastructure and inventory;
3. Service quality.

The project was focused on GPS marking of the best cellars or wine companies exposed as the research results and on determining the coordinates of the roads reaching them, also on development of the wine brochure conception, and its providence with textual and photo material. The project is due to finish by June of the current year. Financial support is provided by the National Administration of Tourism of Georgia.

The purpose of the project was research and popularization of the historical heritage of Kvemo Kartli as a touristic resource. The expedition had researched and identified archeological touristic objects (caves, megaliths, open archeological and architectural-historical monuments) in a chronological principle, designing passports of the monuments by photo material and GPS coordinates. Obtained information was classified and ordered into database. GIS maps were created for a portion of information. Tourism development concept of the region and recommendations for new touristic products were created based on received information. Touristic routs were developed for Kvemo Kartli region. The project was guided by the famous archeologist Prof. Vakhtang Licheli. Financial support was provided by the National Administration of Tourism of Georgia.

“Tourism Geoinformation Center” researches touristic resources (cultural heritage, natural heritage, museums, national events, camping sites, accommodations and etc.) of Georgia since 2011. According to researched information we create new touristic routes, which are presented in online touristic guide www.travelgis.ge and mobile application “TravelGIS” (Android and iOS). Routes are created mainly with self-funding, also provided by Georgian National Tourism Administration and partner Universities.
